Sardine Jerky

Ingredients:

  • Sardines in water (no added salt) or fresh sardines, cleaned

Instructions (Oven Method):

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C).

  2. Pat sardines dry with paper towels to remove moisture.

  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  4. Lay sardines flat, without overlapping.

  5. Bake for 2–3 hours, until dry, firm, and slightly leathery.

  6. Let cool completely before serving.

Instructions (Dehydrator Method):

  1. Pat sardines dry as above.

  2. Place sardines on dehydrator trays in a single layer.

  3. Set dehydrator to 160°F (71°C).

  4. Dry for 4–6 hours, or until fully dried and chewy.

  5. Cool before serving.

Storage:

  • Airtight container in the fridge: 1 week

  • Freezer: up to 2 months

Tip: Sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and small enough for dogs to enjoy as high-value treats. A dehydrator like the one we recommended helps make consistent, odor-controlled jerky.
